Who Exactly Is Jesus Christ
There are three very different viewpoints regarding the identity of Christ.
1/ Jesus always was and always is God.
2/ Jesus was created before creation.
3/ Jesus was a human being only.
These three viewpoints are divided into further categories.
Jesus is God:
1A/ Jesus is part of the so called "Trinity" in which the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all individual beings, they are all God but they are not each other. This is a theory that was developed in the third and fourth century and is prominent in the Catholic, Protestant and most other Christian Churches. There are several drawings and diagrams of the Trinity that in some way explain this idea. (For those new to these type of studies, by saying you are a Trinitarian or you believe in the Trinity you are in fact saying you believe Jesus is God.)
1B/ God is the Father, Holy Spirit, or Jesus at different times. He wears a different "face" this is called Modalism .
1C/ Jesus is God, but in a different way to those described in A or B.
Jesus was Created before Creation:
2A/ Jesus was created before creation, he is also a god, he is also the ark angel Gabriel. This is the Jehovah Witnesses viewpoint.
2B/ Jesus was created before creation, he is a heavenly being, he is not a god, he is not an angel. This is my viewpoint.
In all of the viewpoints 1A-2B Jesus was alive as a spiritual being, and was somehow born again a second time of Mary into a human body at Bethlehem between 0-4 AD.
Jesus was a Human Being Only:
3A/ Jesus was a human being whose life in any form began of Mary at Bethlehem between 0-4AD. This is the Unitarian and Christadelphian viewpoint.
If you have a viewpoint that is not included, or you feel I need to expand or alter these categories please let me know.
Summary:
All of these viewpoints, and others, have experts and theologians throughout the world that would guarantee on pain of death that they are correct. All of these theologians believe they are correct based on the teachings of the bible, and all believe the others to be wrong sometimes calling them heretics or worse and sometimes saying they have lost their salvation because of their false beliefs. Many people understand that there are opposing viewpoints but are reluctant to admit the strength of the opposing arguments for various reasons. Many people are just not sure.
By just reading the different viewpoints listed it quickly becomes evident that only one can be correct and the others have made some serious errors of judgment and interpretation. I wonder what God thinks of all this.
